Attention, demanding travelers! The UNESCO has declared the Terres de l'Ebre region a unique natural and human space throughout the world, granting it the recognition of a Natural Biosphere Reserve.
On September 27, 2016, the Terres de l'Ebre region was declared one of the 100 best sustainable tourism destinations in the world. The distinction, granted by the Internacional Global Green Destinations Association recognizes the work of the Tourism Board of the Biosphere Reserve in the development of quality tourism, sustainable and respectful of the environment and local culture.
A natural treasure of Catalonia!
This quality seal represents the recognition of the international community towards a land that brings together natural treasures of high interest and two unique ecosystems in the Mediterranean such as the Ebro Delta and thel Ports Mountains, , just 30 kilometers away from each other. The Terres de l'Ebre region is the second Catalan territory to obtain this recognition, after the Montseny Natural Park. In 30 years, this Committee has recognized 610 reservations in 117 different countries, including the Amazon, the Niagara Falls as well as the Doñana wetlands, the Sierra Nevada or Lanzarote.
What makes the Terres de l'Ebre a unique territory?
The natural resources and respect that the community has shown towards them makes the territory unique. Farmers, cattle breeders, fishermen, artisans or artists have seen in their natural resources their source of sustenance and inspiration, as well as a way of life that has been transferred in the form of customs, feasts and, of course, in a product, gastronomy. From the Els Ports Natural Park to the Ebro Delta Natural Park, from the Montsià mountain range to the Cardó-Boix mountain range, or from the Pàndols-Cavalls mountain ranges to the islands located on the course of the Ebro river, this land combines different landscapes that change shape and appearance with the transit of seasons and the slow but unforgiving rhythms of nature.
