The cherries from Tarragona are the earliest, since their collection starts from the month of May. Of particular note are those of the Ribera d'Ebre, a region with a climate suitable for the production of this sweet, high quality, tasty fruit with a bright red colour since the annual temperature is balanced between the cold of the winter and the heat of the summer. It was during the 1960s when the large cherry plantations were developed in the Ribera d'Ebre, and by the end of the 20th century they were more than 600 ha of the surface area.
