The Pàndols and Cavalls mountains are the natural extension of the Els Ports massif to the north. These two mountain ranges form a natural complex of great interest in the whole of Catalonia. They enjoy a high geological value, for the types of formations of materials that have drawn breathtaking landscapes: the narrow Canaletes River gorge in the Fontcalda, the Navarro Valley, the Puig Caballé, the Fou de la Càrgola or the Agulla de Bot, among many others. With regard to fauna, the presence of the wild goat, the eagle-hawk, the eagle, the vulture, the hawk, the red-billed crow, the otter and the mountain cat stand out. In addition, at historical and cultural level, they present an undoubted interest, since in these mountains one of the bloodiest battles of the Spanish Civil War, the Ebro River Battle, was fought. That is why the Ebro River Battle Memorial Consortium (Comebe) has prepared some of its natural sites as an open-air museum, integrated in the so-called “Peace Route”.
