As a result of the Ebro Battle and the constant appearance of enemy aviation bombarding the means of passage near Benissanet, and in some cases the same village, the municipal and military authorities controlling it decided to build different shelters such as the “plaza de la Font Gran” shelter, in addition to others of individuals enabled in the basements of the houses, for the same purpose.

The “Font Gran” shelter was constructed between the months of August and October of 1938.
