LA FARSA DE GANDESA
On 17 October 1319 in Gandesa a strange marriage took place between Prince James, son of James II of Aragon, and Elionor, daughter of Fernando IV of Castile. This event is known as The Farce of Gandesa.
Since 2014, this historical event has been recreated in some of the original places and streets of the old town.
Gandesa goes back to the 14th century to commemorate that royal wedding by decorating the town’s streets and squares and organising representations of the actual ceremony, demonstrations of ancient trades and handicrafts, street performances, etc. The event coincides with the Proximity Market in Plaça del Comerç, which is opened by King James II and his entourage
