70% of the world's population of the rare Audouin Gull is breeding in the Ebro Delta. The exotic common flamingo is counted by thousands. In fact, the flamingo has become one of the most identifiable icons of the Ebro Delta. Each summer, a group of volunteers is responsible for identifying how many new specimens have been born. It turns out that there are references to flamingo breeding in this area since the 16th century and data of several failed attempts in the 70s and 80s. In fact, the flamingos did not begin to reproduce successfully until 1993, making this colony one of the few stable of all the Western Mediterranean.
Apart from flamingos, the Tierras del Ebro region also host other species such as the Western Swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio) and the Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus); or the Bonelli's Eagle (Aquila fasciat) and the Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) in the mountains. Throughout the year, there are flocks of attractive and charming birds both resident and breeding, spring and autumn migrations full of surprises and, in winter, aquatic areas full of life.
