Very close to the beach and the cliffs that border the coast of L 'Ametlla de Mar, stands the Castle of Sant Jordi d'Alfama. The origin of this fortress resides in the foundation, in 1201, of the first house of the order of Sant Jordi de Alfama, created with the aim of defending the area against piracy. The castle was besieged several times but the definitive destruction arrived in 1650, when it was bombed from the sea. The defensive set was completely restored in the 18th century and that is why much of the construction has been preserved until today. Although the interior of the fort is not suitable for visits, a walk around it will be a good way to savour the history, but also the coves and rocky landscape of the coast of L'Ametlla de Mar.
