Buda Island is a river island located at the eastern end of the Ebro Delta and belongs to the municipality of Sant Jaume d'Enveja, in the Montsià region. It has about 1,100 hectares, of which about 250 are rice fields and the rest is formed by a wide range of natural environments such as wattles, reeds, salicorn fields and the so-called “Calaixo” or coastal lagoons. This diversity of environments allows Buda Island to be one of the areas of most natural interest in the whole Delta, and that shelters very numerous populations of waterfowl, whether they are nesting or hibernating. The formation of Buda Island dates from the 18th century and reached its maximum extension in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
