Once again in Gandesa, on the way to Vilalba dels Arcs on the TV-7231, we arrive at the Quatre Camins crossing. We see two hills, that of Quatre Camins, where the Carlists soldiers of the “Tercio de Montserrat” camped, and that of “Punta Targa”, mere 300m away, occupied by the Republican army.

The Carlists began the attack to conquer “Punta Targa”, but they were abandoned by other battalions of Franco´s army and were machine-gunned for hours by Republican soldiers. The Carlists soldiers, victors the following day, constructed a memorial in form of a cross on the top of “Punta Targa”.
