Salines de la Trinitat
The Trinitat salt mines are located at the southern end of the Ebro Delta, on the Alfacs peninsula and occupy an approximate area of 1,000 ha. About 25,000 tons of salt are extracted each year, partially exported to northern Europe. Among the most valued types of salt that are produced, the “Flor de Sal” (Salt Flower) stands out. It is a pure salt, collected according to traditional techniques. It has a subtle flavor to violets and a delicate sea aroma. The extraction of salt at the Ebro river mouth is an activity that goes back to the Arab era.
The salt pans are located in a very fragile environmental area of “Punta de la Banya” cataloged as a Partial Natural Reserve. For this reason, the visit of this salt mines is restricted and it is necessary to request permission to the offices of the Natural Park of the Ebro Delta and to Infosa, the company in charge of its exploitation
