TORRE DE LA CARROVA
Torre de la Carrova
43870 Amposta, Tarragona, CataluñaPhone977703453
In this case, we want to highlight a historical set apart from the city. The medieval Carrova Tower is erected on a small hill next to the Ebro river, a few kilometres above the urban nucleus of Amposta, a strategic point for the control of the fluvial transit. Its robust structure of the 14th century places it as one of the most interesting samples of defensive fortification in the lower course of the Ebro river.
From 1443 until the beginning of the 19th century it belonged to the Convent of Benifassà, after passing through the hands of several owners, until 1991 was restored and acquired by the City of Amposta. Just next to the tower a picnic area has been prepared, near the Carrova source, and the remains of a Roman rural house in process of archaeological reconstruction.
