The Galera Tower is a defensive tower of the Galera (Montsià), now incorporated to a church and declared Cultural Asset of National Interest. It is the most representative building of Montsià. Its origin is in the 14th century, when the University of Tortosa decided to raise it to defend the passage of the Rambla de la Galera, which marked the border between the jurisdictional territory of Tortosa and that of Ulldecona.
The building had from the beginning serious structural deficiencies, especially in the roof. This determined its progressive abandon, until 1397 the ceiling fell onto the ground. From this date there is no news until the 17th century, when the lower level was enabled as a parish church, dedicated to Saint Lawrence.
