This is the newest Denomination of Origin in Catalonia. The entire area of the terrain is very uneven; only on the banks of the Montsant river are some flat areas. With the `cariñena´, `garnacha negra´ and `tempranillo´ varieties, red wines with a very high alcoholic graduation and a very intense colour are elaborated. The white wines are elaborated with `macabeo´ for the finest wines, and with `white garnacha´ to endow them with more body. Rosés and liqueur wines complete the offer of the denomination, among which the `mistela´ and the white wine stand out.
