Cala Llenya

Cala Llenya, also known as Platja de l'Ampolla, is one of the most beautiful coves in L’Ametlla de Mar and the Terres de l'Ebre. But what makes it special compared to other beaches and coves in the area? First of all, the fact that it is preserved in natural, wild and unspoilt surroundings, full of pine woods and hiking trails that run along its steep, rugged coast. Its beach is a mixture of fine sand and small pebbles and through its crystalline waters you can glimpse a seabed full of rocks where a wide variety of marine species live half-hidden. This makes it a paradise for  snorkellers. Cala Llenya’s beauty also lies in the rich chromatic variety of its particular pictorial palette, combining the green of the pines, various shades of blue, the golden hue of the sand and the red of the rocks.

The fact that it is just over two kilometres from L’Ametlla de Mar centre and quite small (40 m long and an average of 20 m wide) means it is not usually very crowded. But is precisely its size, rustic nature –between virgin and wild– and low occupation that make it a very charming cove.

Like many of the Terres de l'Ebre’s beaches, Cala Llenya is on the Mediterranean long-distance footpath network, better known as the GR-92. Thus, from both ends of the cove, footpaths run along the coast through a scenery of great natural beauty. From here it is just a short distance to the neighbouring cove of Santes Creus where you will find a pebble beach and a protected natural lagoon of great ecological interest, richly populated by endemic marine fauna.

Cala Llenya has a parking area, showers and a beach bar; it is cleaned daily and has the Blue Flag quality certificate. It can be reached from the N-340 main road or the AP-7 motorway (L'Ametlla de Mar exit) and following the signs to the port. You will pass a roundabout where there is a petrol station and then a bridge. Cross the bridge, take the first exit on the right and then follow the directions to the Urbanització Roques Daurades residential estate and the Hotel Ametlla Mar. After about four kilometres, follow the signs to the Ametlla Village Platja Campsite and Cala Llenya... and you've arrived!

While you’re in the area take advantage to visit the aforementioned first-category campsite, as well as L’Ametlla de Mar marina and, not to be missed, the fishing harbour and the shops of this seaside town.
