Las Roques de Benet
The “Roques de Benet” (Benet´s Rocks) located in the middle of the whole set of mountains and separated from Horta by a great plain, attracts our look and is a reference point in the Terra Alta region. These impressive rocks, which once inspired the painter Pablo Picasso, are one of the most characteristic and emblematic mountain formations of the Natural Park. Its vertical conglomerate walls rise almost 300m and vertically fall on a calcareous base.
Its original name, Bene, is Arabic and is already included in the letter of Christian settlement of the 12th century. The way to climb to the top is indicated and is suitable for anyone with a minimum physical shape. From the top, at 1,013m, we enjoy fantastic bird panoramic view onto the Plain in front of the viewer as well as of the surrounding mountains.
