Las Terres de l'Ebre is to be congratulated. This privileged land situated in the south of Catalonia, where mountain landscapes merge with a deltaic ecosystem in less than 40 kilmetres, is considered one of the 100 best sustainable destinations in the world. This recognition, awarded by Global Green Destinations (http://greendestinations.info/) confirms environmental values in the region and adds to the distinction of Biosphere Reserve which was attained in 2103.
The third edition of the Delta Birding Festival took place on 23rd, 24th and 25th September 2016 and had a real challenge to meet. The previous two editions had enjoyed as guest speakers some of the most important ornithologists of the world.
The first ornithological Annual on the Ebro Delta was presented on 13th December last year. The Annual is a document publishing all of the most important observations in bird communities occurring each year in the region.
An observatory is the ideal place for contemplating, observing and interpreting a panoramic view or particular elements in the landscape. In Els Ports Nature Park, the most emblematic observatory is the one in Caro.
Sebes Nature Reserve is well-known all over for its ornithological diversity as well as for the presence of nesting or migratory birds which are not very common in this country. Furthermore, many of these birds can be spotted with ease from available infrastructures (observatories, walkways, routes), and from which photographers take great enjoyment. The kingfisher, marsh harrier, purple heron, little bittern, common bittern… are just some of the emblematic species you can see here.
Ethnobotany studies the relationship between man and vegetation, and includes different applications and uses deriving from plants such as medicinal, ornamental, industrial or gastronomic. Plants have been used by man since the very beginning, and at present are sources of raw materials as well as a source of health for many people interested in natural medicine.
The wind has come to stay. Or at least so it seems. The days of green fields and farmers bent over rice crops have long gone, along with days of never ending sun, or glowing orange evenings around nine at night. Mosquitos, bathers, pleasure boats along the bay, sand in our shoes… They are no more, they have disappeared.
