This route along the River Ebro is one of the official routes of the Camino de Santiago (The Pilgrims’ Way) in Catalonia. In Tortosa it passes through the emblematic Portal del Romeu and has its origins in the 12th century, when thanks to its busy river port, the Medieval city welcomed a large volume of travellers from all over the world, some of whom began their pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela from here.
