The life of Kingfisher
The Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) is without doubt the most emblematic bird to photograph at Sebes Nature Reserve in Flix. Throughout the year you can take a whole variety of shots showing their behaviour from the observatory at Sebes lagoon. Starting off with when they defend their fishing territory which is not only full of small fishes but and even American crabs, which they also feed on. They use various fishing techniques such as diving from the branch of a tree near the shore of the lake, or fluttering around and keeping their position in the air and then plummeting beak first into the water.
When leaving their brood, they take the inexperienced young ones to watch them fishing, so it is quite common to see chicks waiting on branches cheeping for food. In the autumn, other migrating kingfishers arrive to join the ones which breed there regularly.
The kingfisher is always present except for the coldest days the year when the lake is frozen over. We invite you once again to enjoy this bird, the kingfisher, which when in flight is like a spark of turquoise blue light flitting through the sky.
